This imposing corner-plot pub stands close to the heart of Carshalton village.

Both wet and food sides of the business are increasingly popular; six real ales attract beer lovers, whilst a gastro-style menu encourages diners to tarry a while in the modish interior.  Commence with a Pulled pork & bacon scotch egg with burnt onion mayo, leaving room for mains such as Pork belly, plum sauce, five spice carrot, lemongrass dumpling and  crispy cabbage as well as a large range of vegetarian and vegan options such as Butternut squash, sage & apple gnocchi with hispi cabbage and hazelnuts.

In a leafy swathe of suburbia around Carshalton Ponds, the Sun is a discreet all-rounder with a friendly community vibe, splashes of new colour and some original Victorian fittings – plus a cracking garden out back.

Food and drink are taken seriously and the kitchen delivers a roster of please-all, homespun dishes at reasonable prices: pub staples such as Fillet of haddock with parsnip & sage pappardelle and crispy Parma ham or Lamb shoulder with black pudding croquette, braised red cabbage and pear jus.  Finishing it off with the Sticky Toffee Pudding and dark chocolate brownie

Proper pub hospitality, real ales, coffee mornings and themed evenings keep everyone happy in this family-friendly watering hole.

The Sun’s Future Looks Bright – Sutton Guardian Review

The Sun gives as warm a welcome as its namesake. While a lot of effort has gone into drawing in families it balances nicely with functioning as a proper pub and community hub, hosting quiz nights and coffee mornings.

At a casual glance the tasteful pub decor looks like it has been there for years… full marks for effort, especially in the lovely beer garden.  There was a highly acceptable selection of ales p and a decent wine list. It truly scored with the addition of the kitchen – children are allowed until 7pm and we arrived just before 6pm and the three of us were happily fed and watered before the deadline. We wended our way into the evening and resolved to go back there as soon as possible.
